Miniature Voltage Isolation Provides Positive and Negative Supply

The development of miniature low-power (<2-W) DC/DC converters is growing rapidly because of the hot growth in distributed-power architecture. This application minimize the converter’s impact onboard space. This device is very useful for safety-critical applications such as medical equipment, and telecommunications, and industrial applications because it provides point-of-use isolated power conversion for analog circuitry. In addition, this device can be used to reduce noise and galvanically isolate output power. The following figures show miniature isolated DC/DC converter in standard IC package, IC lead-frame and the schematic diagram of the device :
Usually, to create positive and negative output voltages to op amp we need some board space. It can be reduced by using miniature DC/DC converters in standard IC packaging. The operating input voltage of this circuit is 4.5 to 5.5 V. To create unregulated output voltages with a magnitude higher than its +5-V input, this circuit use the dual-output converter. It performs a buck boost function with a -12V output and boost function that creates a +12V output. [Source: Texas Instruments Application Note]
